William May, MD is the co-director of the Johns Hopkins Zika Center. He is an associate professor of ophthalmology at the Wilmer Eye Institute. He is a comprehensive ophthalmologist and specializes in cataracts and refractive surgery. Dr. May’s particular interests are femtosecond laser cataract surgery, eye problems in the Middle East and the prevention of blindness in children through early detection of eye diseases world-wide.
Dr. May earned his bachelor’s from the University of California in San Diego and his medical degree from the University of California at Davis where he was the Morton Levitt Research Scholar. He completed his ophthalmology residency and fellowship training in refractive surgery at The University of Southern California’s Doheny Eye Insitute. Dr. May joined Wilmer in 2013 when he became director of the Specialist Hospital in Saudi Arabia, then joined the Baltimore faculty in 2016. He speaks fluent Spanish and Portuguese.
